Subject: Farm Employee Housing for Parrot Breeding Business

Assessor's Parcel Number 27-031-04

Dear Ms. Gould

After speaking with you today I called Alan Falleri, the Chief Planner in the Ukiah office, to verify that farm employee housing could apply to raising exotic birds and to find out what type of permit has been granted by the County to authorize your business. He stated that the breeding and sale of exotic birds is not considered a bona fide agricultural use under Mendocino County zoning code.

As such, farm employee housing can not be established in association with your business. Alan also stated that he was not aware that any use permits had been granted for this use. Please call Alan at 463-4281 to discuss the permit process and your options.

Sincerely,
Doug Zannini

I called Alan Falleri, and he then requested an overview of our entire operation. This was sent to him via email, and detailed that we were not retailing, that his own code books specifically say no use permits are required for animals (the turkey farm operates without a use permit, I have found out later) and that the last conversation I had had with P&Z in Fort Bragg, they said "Fine, move your animals on, and call us when you need a permit for your barns". I also detailed about our row crops, our orchards, and plans for the farm in general. This all fell on deaf ears.

I then got in contact with our attorneys on the Board of Directors for Parrot Preservation Society, and had them fire off a few letters to see if we could resolve this matter quickly so we could get on with our lives.
